WCMC (Europe) asbl is a newly established partner organisation of WCMC - a UK-registered charity that works in collaboration with UNEP, and with scientists and policy makers worldwide to place biodiversity at the heart of environment and development decision-making to enable enlightened choices for people and the planet. WCMC’s 100-strong international team are recognised leaders in their field and have unrivalled understanding of the institutional landscape surrounding biodiversity policy and ecosystem management.
Based in Brussels, Belgium, WCMC (Europe) is a not-for-profit that promotes for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interstrongting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions.

Jonathan ‘Jonny’ Hughes has overall leadership responsibility for WCMC whilst fostering seamless collaboration between the charity and the UN Environment Programme as UNEP-WCMC (known collectively as the Centre). As leader of WCMC, Jonny is responsible for building a high-performance culture that ensures quality outputs and measurable impact for UNEP-WCMC as it strives towards its vision for a ‘sustainable world for biodiversity and people’.
Jonny reports to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of WCMC.

Dr. Robin Bidwell CBE
Director & Chairman of the Board
Robin joined the WCMC Board of Trustees in 2016.
Robin has a distinguished career in the private, public and non-profit sectors. He built and led the global environmental advisory firm, Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and currently chairs LOC, a global marine and engineering consultancy.
Robin also chairs an R+D Fund for OFGEM, the energy regulator; is an adviser to the Conservation Programmes Director at ZSL and chairs two social impact investment funds focussed on environment/poverty in developing countries and the Low Carbon Enterprise Fund (a charity).
Robin also chaired the Green Alliance from 2008 to 2015. He was awarded a CBE in 1999 for Services to the Environment.
